Bombay
Sailing Association presents The Joint Optimist Sailing Programme (along
with the Royal Bombay Yacht Club & the Colaba Sailing club) (For children
of ages 8 to 15) SAILING! Here is a sport that
will help your child blossom. Take a look for yourself: -
Sailing
builds self-reliance and self confidence Sailing requires
quick decision making Sailing builds an outgoing personality
and a love for the environment. Sailing is competitive.
Sailing is loads of fun and a great place to make new friends.
Sailing is for all: kids of all shapes and sizes and their
parents too.
For a decade now we have been
training young children to sail in a superbly designed little boat called the
"OPTIMIST". This boat was designed only for children between the ages of
8 and 15. These boats are simple to handle and easy enough for an 8 year old to
handle. Safety At Sea Our infrastructure ensures that the kids
are safe and having fun in the sun! During training programs
we always have two rescue boats on the periphery and keep a constant watch on
the kids. In addition to the necessary coaches which are sometimes qualified parents,
we welcome aboard concerned parents to come and watch their kids pick up and enjoy
the sport. Costs The basic course (10 lessons)
costs Rs. 5000/- per child, It will be conducted over the weekends and will be
either in the mornings or post lunch ( approx 3 hours each).. All parents / guardians
will be required to sign indemnity bonds. As children develop competence they
will be able to sail and race in the regular races conducted by the RBYC as outlined
in the Bi Annual Joint Sailing Program. General Information Over
the last 9 years we are proud to state that the children we have trained have
developed into fine young sailors and represented our clubs at the National level
championships held in Mumbai, Pune, Chennai and Goa and even International events
like the Asian Sailing Championships. Some of them are National Champions today. The
Optimist Sailing Programme for new comers is normally scheduled to begin in end
October. However, we can accommodate your child at any time during the sailing
season. The only pre-requisite that we have is that any child between 8
- 15 years must be able to swim 50 meters continuously and stay afloat for
5 minutes and pass a swimming test. The Joint Sailing
Program being conducted by the RBYC / BSA & CSC have totally 23 Optimist class
boats at their disposal, qualified trainers, facilities to use the hard at Naval
Sailing Club, Mumbai for on-ground training and launching of boats and support
motor driven boats for practical training and rescue. Voila
